Macca sees similarities with 1D

Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he doesn't entirely disagree with comparisons between The Beatles and One Direction.

The superstar even said he quite liked the former X Factor contestants and could see some similarities with his early career.

He told Sky News: "I like One Direction. They're young, beautiful boys and that's the big attraction. But they can sing, they make good records, so I think that's what I would see in common [with The Beatles]. Girls love them."

" I always think it's a little bit unfortunate when you call [a band] the new Beatles. It can be the kiss of death because people expect you to live up to what we did. We did what we did in a particular period in time, which was very different to now. I don't know whether it was easier to be a wild success, but it was different."

Meanwhile, Sir Paul has managed to get ex-couple Kate Moss and Johnny Depp back on screen together for the first time since their split in 1998, as they both have small roles in the video for his single, Queenie Eye.

He told the Daily Mirror of his casting coup: "They are friends of mine and (daughter) Stella's. I am very lucky they agreed to do it."

This week Sir Paul launched his album New with a BBC performance at Maida Vale Studios, and was surprised when one of the 200-strong audience asked him for an autograph mid-set during the live broadcast.

He asked the fan: "What? Now? I love it - there's one in every crowd. As if I don't have enough to do to remember the songs and the chords."
