Kasabian to play hometown show

Kasabian are to headline a major outdoor show in their home town next summer.

The band, currently recording their fifth album having achieved three number ones, will play Leicester's Victoria Park for a crowd of around 35,000 people.

The gig, on June 21, will be their first UK performance since playing at the Hard Rock Calling event in east London's Queen Elizabeth Park in the summer.

Guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno said: "We are hugely honoured to be playing in our home town at such an incredible setting, right in the heart of the city. It's a happening we've been planning for years. Summer solstice is coming - set the controls for the heart of the sun."

Andy Copping of promoter Live Nation said: "The band are very proud of Leicester and this means more to them then any other show they have ever played."

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
