Sophie dead: Musician dies aged 34 after ‘sudden accident’
Musician Sophie has died aged 34 following a “sudden accident”, it has been announced.
A statement from the artist's team called her a “pioneer of new sound” as they announced her tragic passing.
It read: “It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident.”
The Scottish-born star had worked with musicians including Madonna and Charli XCX throughout her career.

Sophie was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2019, for her album Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides.
Sophie worked with Charli XCX on multiple songs for her debut album, which was released in 2015.
She later went on to produce many songs Charli XCX’s 2016 album, Vroom Vroom EP, and even toured with the singer.
The statement, obtained by Metro.co.uk continued to say tribute to Sophie’s career.
It read: “SOPHIE was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists in the last decade.
“Not only for ingenious production and creativity but also for the message and visibility that was achieved. An icon of liberation.”
It ended with: “At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority.
"We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity.”
Tributes for the star have already began pouring in on social media.
French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens tweeted: “Sophie was a stellar producer, a visionary, a reference.
“She rebelled against the narrow, normative society by being an absolute triumph, both as an artist and as a woman.
“I can’t believe she is gone. We need to honor and respect her memory and legacy. Cherish the pioneers.”
Writer Shon Faye added: “I was devastated when I heard of SOPHIE’s death. Her music was the soundtrack to so many important parts of my recent life. She was a visionary and this world is just a bit less spectacular without her creativity in it. Rest in peace, sister.”
And artist MELVV said: “so unbelievably sad to hear about sophie. i had msmsmsm in my dj sets for 4 years. one of the biggest influences on me and all my peers. heartbroken”.
