Rain can't dampen festival spirits

Revellers braved the rain on Sunday during the last day of the Isle of Wight Festival as Kasabian headlined the final night.

About 75,000 people converged on Seaclose Park, Newport, for the three-day event which has also seen performances by Kings of Leon, Pulp, Foo Fighters, Tom Jones and Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye.

The event was celebrating its 10th anniversary since it re-incarnated the legendary festivals of the late 1960s.

Kate Moss brought her hen-do to the festival with the group arriving in two large pink limousines and other celebrities who enjoyed the event were actress Sadie Frost and Mathew Horne from TV's Gavin and Stacey.

Although the crowd had depleted slightly because of the weather, the atmosphere was still lively.

Joel Ryder, from Southsea, Hampshire, said: "It's been non-stop rain since 5am this morning and some people have definitely left due to the rain but the atmosphere is still good. Some people have ditched their trainers because they got too mud-ridden and have had to go barefoot."

Chris Jones, from Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, added: "It's been an awesome weekend. Seasick Steve was a legend and the Foos were just amazing. Dave Grohl is the epitome of rock and roll frontmen and no amount of rain today will dampen some great memories."

During the weekend, some people were annoyed with the organisers who had banned foldable chairs from the site "out of concern for the public" and to "enhance the audience experience", although the chairs could still be bought from shops on site.
