Sun shines on T Park festival fans

Organisers are celebrating a successful opening night to Scotland`s biggest music festival as the sun shone on tens of thousands of music fans.

Fancy Dress Friday at T in the Park in Balado, Kinross-shire saw revellers dressed in 80s-style costumes.

Saturday's big performances will come courtesy of Coldplay and Beyonce who are both set to star on the Main Stage.

Tayside Police issued a statement to say there is no truth in the "persistent rumours" on social network sites about drug-related deaths at the festival.

The statement said: "These unfounded rumours are causing concern, particularly to family and friends of revellers attending the event.

"Tayside Police wishes to stress that there is no truth to these rumours."

Arctic Monkeys brought the opening evening to an end after performances from legendary Welsh rocker Sir Tom Jones as well as a set from Dundee-based The View.

Sir Tom said: "I`d heard a lot about T in the Park, and as we were driving in I saw all the punters - who looked very interesting.

"They all looked the part anyway. For me this is fantastic. I don`t play many festivals, or haven`t done in the past. But this is great - you see all sorts of people. And nine times out of ten it`s a younger crowd."

Organisers expect up to 85,000 people a day to head to the music extravaganza.
