Gaga angered by Russian government

Lady Gaga has branded the Russian government's stance towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community as "criminal".

The Poker Face singer's comments on Twitter come after Russian officials issued a statement, saying that she could face prosecution for not getting the right visas to enter and perform in the country when she visited in December 2012. She was also accused of promoting "gay propaganda" during the gig.

"Sending bravery to LGBTs in Russia. The rise in government abuse is archaic. Hosing teenagers with pepper spray? Beatings? Mother Russia?" she wrote.

"The Russian government is criminal. Oppression will be met with revolution. Russian LGBTs you are not alone. We will fight for your freedom."

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, added: "Why didn't you arrest me when you had the chance, Russia? Because you didn't want answer to the world?"

Russian politician Vitaly Milonov, who wrote St Petersburg's law banning gay "propaganda", had tried and failed to take legal action against the 27-year-old for speaking out in support of LGBT issues during her concert in 2012 and for "promoting sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism among minors".
