Lily Allen back at top of charts

Lily Allen has returned to the top of the singles chart - a position she was in just two weeks ago.

Her cover of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know, which features on John Lewis's Christmas TV advertisement, first reached the chart summit two weeks ago, beating both Bastille and Gary Barlow in the closest number one race of the year so far.

Last Sunday she lost the top spot to Calvin Harris, Alesso and Hurts' Under Control.

Allen has faced fierce competition over the last seven days from One Direction's Story Of My Life, but her single finishes the week 6,000 copies ahead of the 1D boys who are at number two, the Official Charts Company said.

It is her third UK number one single following Smile in 2006 and The Fear in 2009, and is hotly tipped to be this year's Christmas number one.

Bastille climbed from five to three with Of The Night, while Calvin Harris and friends slid three places to number four.

Gary Barlow's Let Me Go completes this week's top five.

Rebecca Ferguson scores the week's highest new entry with her latest single I Hope at number 15, while her fellow X Factor alumni, James Arthur, is new in at number 19 with his single Recovery.

The X Factor winner Leona Lewis' new Christmas single, One More Sleep, entered at 34.

Meanwhile in the albums chart, One Direction held on to the number one spot for a second consecutive week with Midnight Memories.

Last Sunday, the group's third studio full-length album became the fastest-selling artist album of 2013 so far, shifting 237,000 copies during its first week on sale.

A further 124,000 copies of Midnight Memories have been purchased over the last seven days, according to the Official Charts Company's sales data.

Take That stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow traded places, with Williams' Swings Both Ways album climbing to number two with more than 91,000 sales this week.

Barlow's Since I Saw You Last finishes the week in third place.

Olly Murs' Right Place, Right Time holds firm at number four, while Il Divo claimed their sixth top 10 album today with A Musical Affair at number five.

Pop princess Britney Spears is new in at 34 with her self-titled album Britney Jean, while Leona Lewis entered at 25 with her festive offering Christmas, With Love.
