Now That's What I Call ... success

A collection of songs from the Now That's What I Call Music series of compilations has become the biggest-selling album of the year on iTunes.

The ever-popular releases celebrated their 30th anniversary this year and the 85th in the series was the most popular for 2013 via the download store.

The tracklist included the massive hits Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke, Get Lucky by Daft Punk and Love Me Again by John Newman.

Number 84 was the fifth-biggest release of this year while three others from the money-spinning collections feature in the top 100 best-sellers: number 83; a 30th birthday round-up of hits; and a collection of songs for runners.

The second most downloaded album was Bastille's All This Bad Blood, with Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events at number three. Sande's album was last year's biggest iTunes release, with a Now album making it only as high as number five.

The best-selling song of the year was Blurred Lines, which featured TI and Pharrell Williams, and achieved notoriety because of its lyrics and controversial video in which Robin Thicke is surrounded by naked female models.

Second was Avicii's Wake Me Up with Daft Punk's Get Lucky in third position. Get Lucky, which also featured Pharrell, was also chosen as the iTunes song of the year.

Album of the year is named as If You Wait by London Grammar. The band said: "This is an absolute honour for us. We can't thank iTunes and our fans enough for their support and this recognition. It's been an incredible year and this marks its close on a fantastic high, so thank you so much."

Artist of the year was Arctic Monkeys and breakthrough artist of the year was Haim.
