NewsAugust, 4 Lauryn Hill puts tax issues behind her with conceptual tourLauryn Hill is hoping to "yield expression and empowerment" with her new tour. The 41-year-old singer, who has been hitting headlines for her run-ins with the taxman more than her music over recent years, is going to be hitting the road later this month (Aug16) for The MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! tour. It follows on from Lauryn's hugely successful inaugural Diaspora Calling! music festival held in Brooklyn, New York, and will see the star joined by a host of guest performers "from throughout the African diaspora". "The MLH Caravan allows me to continue the theme of unity and celebration of the many facets of cultural and artistic beauty throughout the African diaspora while on tour this summer and fall," Lauryn said in a statement. "In these days of tension, tumult and transition, an exchange of this kind can yield direction, expression, understanding and empowerment as well as connection, self love and appreciation that hopefully overflows into our respective communities." While the guest performers for the tour have yet to be announced, stars at the festival in April (16) included Stephen 'Raggamuffin' Marley from Jamaica and Machel Montano from Trinidad. The tour will kick off at The Mann Center in Philadelphia on August 27 and will conclude at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 13. News of the tour came after former Fugees star Lauryn said she is "working steadily towards a resolution" in her tax issues, following the news that she has been hit with a $440,000 (£331,750) tax lien from officials in New Jersey. Lauryn owes $438,220 (£330,500) to officials at the state's Division of Taxation, while another lien from 2012 for $446,400 (£336,670) is also apparently listed on the organisation's website, according to Bossip.com. Later, Lauryn took to her Instagram page to release a statement insisting her issues concerning her tax payments are nothing new. “I wanted to address the recent reports in the media that I have new tax issues," she wrote. "This is not a new situation, I’m still taking care of past taxes. This has been an ongoing process, and I have been working steadily towards a resolution. It has been an uphill battle but we’re getting over the hump."
