Lewis Capaldi has revealed that therapy helped pave his way back to music.

Last month, the Scottish hitmaker made a triumphant return to the Glastonbury stage, two years after announcing his break from the music industry to focus on his mental and physical health.

Just days before announcing his hiatus in 2023, Lewis performed on the Pyramid Stage but was unable to complete his set as he was struggling to manage his Tourette syndrome symptoms.

In a new campaign with the online therapy platform BetterHelp, Lewis opened up about the impact of his mental health on his performance at Glastonbury in 2023.

"I think I probably knew two songs into the set at Glastonbury that I couldn't do it," he said. "Glastonbury's obviously a big deal - it's kind of like the biggest deal - and it was the Pyramid Stage, so it was a big old gig."

"Second song in I was like probably like, I can't keep doing this to myself and other people as well," he continued. "People are coming to gigs, it's not how you want to watch a show. And as far as I was concerned, I was like, 'I'm done indefinitely.'"

The Before You Go hitmaker then noted that he needed a break from the music industry as a whole.

"I didn't take a break to just focus on getting better," he shared. "I took a break because I needed a break, and to sort of release the pressure valve a little bit."

During his 2023 Glastonbury set, fans noticed that Lewis was struggling, so the crowd helped him out by singing his songs along with him. He admitted that watching the footage back made him "feel sad" but also grateful to the people who helped him "get through it".

Lewis went on to share that he has been working with a therapist for the last two years.

"He's the best therapist I've worked with. I would say that has been the cornerstone of why I feel good now," he revealed. "Therapy has been a massive part of the reason why I'm able to be a musician again."

In addition to his surprise 2025 Glastonbury set, Lewis marked his return to music with a new single, Survive, in late June.
