NewsJuly, 8 Drummer Matt Cameron leaving Pearl Jam![]() Drummer Matt Cameron is departing Pearl Jam after 27 years. A year after Soundgarden broke up, the musician joined the Seattle-based rock band led by vocalist/guitarist Eddie Vedder in 1998. But following almost three decades together, Cameron issued a statement on Monday in which he announced he was leaving the group, also comprised of Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, and Mike McCready. "After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam," he wrote. "Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter." To conclude his message, Cameron thanked his crew, staff, and fans for their support. "It's been an incredible journey. More to follow. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart," the 62-year-old added. While in a separate note, the remaining members of Pearl Jam wished "true powerhouse" Cameron all the best. "He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings. It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we wish him well always. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music. We love you Matt," they commented. Cameron didn't detail his future plans. A new drummer for Pearl Jam has not yet been confirmed.
