Olivia Rodrigo Drops Surprise Track Serena Joy

Olivia Rodrigo has surprised her fans by officially releasing her new track, Serena Joy, on streaming platforms.

The announcement came on Monday, when the Drop Dead singer shared the news on Instagram, revealing that a portion of the proceeds will go to her Daisy Chain Fields Fund. That fund supports nonprofit organizations such as Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and the Center for Reproductive Rights.

In her post, she wrote: "Surprise!!! Serena Joy out on streaming platforms now. A portion of all net proceeds go to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund. I love this song so much!!!!"

Last week, the owners of the Analog Record Shop in Orange County, California, shared that Olivia had given them 500 CD copies of the song ahead of her upcoming Daisy Chain Fields festival. They expressed gratitude for what the gesture represents: an artist supporting women in music, raising funds for women and girls, backing a local independent record store, and letting her hometown be part of something special.

The song is believed to be named after Serena Joy, a character from Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel The Handmaid's Tale.

Back in June, Olivia revealed that she had chosen not to include the track on her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. She told Etalk that she really loves the song but it didn't fit the album's narrative of a relationship from beginning to end. She hopes it will find a place in a future project.

The Daisy Chain Fields festival is scheduled for Saturday at Great Park in Irvine, California. Alongside Olivia, the lineup includes Chappell Roan, Doechii, Katseye, Mitski, the Breeders, Die Spitz, Bikini Kill, Garbage, Quiet Light, Rachel Chinouriri, Santigold, and Not for Radio. Special guests will be Karen O, Stevie Nicks, and Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan.
