Stars Pay Tribute to Dolly Parton

Sabrina Carpenter and Paul McCartney have joined the wave of tributes following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton, who passed away on 25 August at the age of 80.

Sabrina, 27, posted a black-and-white photo gallery of herself with Dolly on social media, captioning it with heartfelt words. She described Dolly as “an angel” and recalled their first meeting, writing, “the only thing i could say after we first met was ‘she really is an angel walking the earth’ and ‘we look like we could be sisters!’”

The singer, who had recorded a duet of Dolly’s classic Jolene for the deluxe edition of her album Short n’ Sweet, reflected on the loss of Dolly’s “singular magic.” She wrote, “i will cherish our laughter and conversations and i will keep your wisdom, your playful outlook on life, and perfect sense of humor in my pocket for the rainy days. there will never be another you and how lucky are we all to have experienced your singular magic as well as your once in a lifetime voice, songs, and heart. your light will be something the world will search forever to find again. i will always love you.”

Paul McCartney, 84, shared his own memories on Instagram, saying he finds it “hard to imagine living in a world without Dolly.” He recalled meeting her in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry, where she had been performing with country star Porter Wagoner and was about to launch her solo career. “She was so bubbly and full of life it is difficult to take in the news that she has passed. Her songwriting, her singing and her philanthropy were unrivaled in the world of country music,” he wrote.

Dolly’s family announced her death in a statement, revealing that she had “bravely facing a brief battle with cancer.” The statement praised her lifelong dedication to bringing “joy, laughter, hope and integrity” to everything she touched, and highlighted her charitable work, including the Imagination Library book donation program and funding for research that led to a lifesaving vaccine. She died at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Centre, surrounded by loved ones.
