Jane Fonda Mourns Dolly Parton in Tribute

Jane Fonda has shared a heartfelt tribute to her longtime friend Dolly Parton, who has died at the age of 80.

The two starred together in the 1980 comedy 9 To 5, which also featured Parton's hit song of the same name.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday afternoon, Fonda wrote that she was devastated upon learning that Parton had passed away. She acknowledged that millions are mourning and expressed her belief that Parton will always be with us because she was so present, powerful, generous, and playful that she remains woven into our lives and hearts forever.

Alongside a throwback photo of the pair, Fonda continued, urging gratitude for what Parton left behind to ease the sadness. She described Parton as a naughty, playful southern gal from the hollows of Tennessee, yet also a deep, soulful thinker who could see through people to their true selves. Fonda listed Parton's many roles: lyricist, songstress, player of many instruments, writer, prankster, visionary, and loyal friend who would never go to bed before she and her friends had laughed so hard they had to cross their legs.

9 To 5 was largely responsible for propelling Parton into mainstream pop culture. In the film, she, along with Fonda and Lily Tomlin, played three working women who enact revenge fantasies on their sexist boss. A musical stage adaptation with new songs by Parton opened on Broadway in 2009.
