NewsAugust, 25 Linda McCartney Honored on US Stamps
The United States Postal Service will release a series of stamps honoring photographer and activist Linda McCartney. The collection features 20 stamps with five of her images, including still lifes of sunflowers and a teapot. In an Instagram announcement, the USPS described McCartney's career as multifaceted, spanning photography, music, cookbook writing, and animal rights advocacy. Her work captured the spirit of the Sixties through intimate portraits of iconic musicians and documented everyday life with authentic snapshots. Born Linda Eastman, she photographed many of the biggest stars of the era, including The Doors, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, and Frank Zappa. In 1968, her photo of a young Eric Clapton made her the first woman to have a photograph on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. She later married Paul McCartney and co-founded the band Wings, where she played keyboards. McCartney passed away in 1998 from breast cancer at the age of 56. The stamps will go on sale at USPS locations nationwide starting September 25.
