Duran Duran to be recieve ASCAP Golden Note Award

Duran Duran are to be honoured with The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' (ASCAP) Golden Note Award.

The legendary band - whose famous hits include 'Girls on Film' and 'Planet Earth' - will be the recipient of the prestigious gong which recognises songwriters and musicians who have achieved extraordinary success throughout their career.

Paul Williams, the president of ASCAP, commented: "Duran Duran revolutionised popular music. They are the pioneers of the synthpop and new wave movement and have reached a stratospheric level of success which is rarely seen in the industry.

"We are delighted to present this extremely unique and innovative group with the ASCAP Golden Note Award."

The 80s pop group - comprised of Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor - formed in Birmingham, England in 1978 and have continuously topped the charts ever since selling more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the most successful bands of all time.

Duran Duran have been bestowed with several accolades including a Grammy, BRIT Award, Ivor Novello, and MTV Video Music Award.

Previous winners of the ASCAP Award include Jeff Lynne, Alicia Keys, Lionel Richie, Sir Elton John, George Michael, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones.

The evening will also see esteemed Vanguard Awards presented, as well as, the Global Impact, Song of the Year, Top Digital Song, Top EDM Song and Film Score of the Year prize.

The awards will be dished out at a star-studded bash at One Embankment in London on November 10.
