NewsSeptember, 11 ITV Confirms New Voice UK Line-Up After Tom Jones Exit
ITV has responded to Tom Jones's departure from The Voice UK, after the singer said he was fired from the coaching panel. Jones spoke earlier in the week about reports of a shake-up on the singing competition, saying he had been let go. On Friday, a representative for the network commented on his exit and named the coaches for the new series: Cheryl and Aitch will take the revolving red chairs alongside returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am. In a statement, ITV thanked the "irreplaceable" Sir Tom Jones for his years on The Voice UK and for the many memorable moments he gave the show, adding that he had brought joy to audiences and to every singer who performed for him and with him. The network also thanked departing presenter Emma Willis and judges Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones for their contributions and wished them well in their next chapters. Filming for the 15th season started in Manchester on Friday, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon as presenters. The show is due to air next year. Jones said this week that he "did not want to leave" The Voice and that "financial difficulty with insurance" had been given as the reason for his exit. He claimed he had been offered a "much reduced role" that would have involved an appearance without being part of the show from the start, and said he was "not thrilled about that". "So the only thing I know right now, is that there's never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who's still pretty good at his job," he added. The Welsh legend had been a coach since the competition began in 2012. He was dropped before the 2015 season, a decision he described at the time as "very disappointing", and was brought back for the following series.
