Lil Durk Acquitted but Stays in Jail

Lil Durk is still behind bars even though a jury cleared him on Friday.

On 11 September, a federal jury in Los Angeles found the rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, not guilty of arranging a murder-for-hire plot that led to a man's death in Los Angeles four years ago.

Prosecutors say he will stay in custody until his racketeering case, connected to the 2022 shooting death of Stephon Mack, is resolved. That second trial, on racketeering murder and firearms charges, is set for 5 October.

Fellow rapper 6ix9ine, a longtime rival, still found a way to mock Durk despite the Chicago rapper's court victory.

6ix9ine had planned a 'Lil Durk Going Away Party' if the verdict had gone the other way, and he went ahead with a celebration anyway.

In an Instagram video showing him setting off fireworks and popping champagne, he responded to the decision while taunting Durk about his late brother, Dontay 'DThang' Banks, and rapper King Von, who was signed to Durk's label, Only the Family.

"Von dead. DThang dead. Durk still in prison," he wrote in the caption.

The murder-for-hire case examined whether Durk had ordered a hit on Quando Rondo, whose legal name is Tyquian Bowman, as revenge for the 2020 killing of King Von. The August 2022 shooting at a petrol station instead killed Rondo's 24-year-old cousin, Saviay'a Robinson.
