NewsSeptember, 6 Kid Cudi Defends Performing with Kanye West
Kid Cudi has spoken out in defense of his recent performance with Kanye West in Chicago on Friday night. The rapper, known for hits like Day n Nite, opened for West, who is also known as Ye, during his two-date return to the Windy City. Cudi, who was signed to West's GOOD Music label in 2008, has apparently mended fences with the controversial artist. On Saturday, Cudi responded to criticism from a fan on social media, writing, "I understand ur frustration, I don't really care if ur disappointed in me. That man is my brother." He went on to explain that the fan doesn't have the same relationship with West that he does, noting, "Damn near 2 decades of art and friendship. U not family. So I get it." Cudi added that he has spent time with West recently and feels that talking to him now is like it was when they first met, "but even better." He attributed West's past behavior to mental health struggles, saying, "He was dealing w mental health struggles for years and now he's good. Everyone deserves some grace when they family." The Free artist acknowledged that he had been hard on West in the past, but that West had apologized sincerely. "I held him accountable. He apologised, and it was sincere. But like I said, u not family so I get it." Last year, West faced backlash for antisemitic remarks, including a song that praised Hitler. He later apologized in a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal in January. At that time, Cudi had said he was "done" with West, expressing heartbreak over the change in his former friend. Following his public apology, West launched his Ye Live Concert Tour in April, with upcoming dates including Jakarta, Indonesia on 24 October. He has encountered difficulties performing in the UK and France due to his past statements.
