NewsOctober, 19 Fontaines D.C. set for second UK Number 1 album
Fontaines D.C. look set to claim their second UK Number 1 album, with their fifth studio record Dopamine Chamber leading the Official Albums Chart update. The Irish rock band, whose 2022 release Skinty Fia also reached the top, already have Top 10 albums to their name in Dogrel (2019), A Hero’s Death (2020) and Romance (2024). Olivia Rodrigo sits at Number 2 with You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In, and Michael Jackson’s compilation The Essential is at Number 3. Croydon singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri could score her highest-charting album yet: her second LP, I Think I Spoke Too Soon, is heading for Number 4. Reissues are also making their presence felt near the top. Ash are in line for a Top 5 return at Number 5, as their 1977 album marks its 30th anniversary with a double vinyl edition. Tears For Fears follow at Number 6, where 1989’s The Seeds Of Love has climbed thanks to a deluxe CD reissue. Further down, British artist Nieve Ella is set for a first Top 10 entry with How Long Will It Take? at Number 9, just ahead of country star Zach Bryan’s new EP Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs at Number 10. Richard Thompson, formerly of Fairport Convention, is close by at Number 12 with Hippies, Thugs and Heroes. Among the other new entries, Australian electronic trio The Avalanches are aiming for a fourth Top 40 album with No Bad Memories at Number 21, while Eels are tracking toward Number 34 with Cookie Happened. Special vinyl releases for National Album Day have also pushed classics by Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd and George Michael back up the chart.
