NewsOctober, 21 MNEK calls off Bulldozer!! tour weeks before launch
MNEK has pulled the plug on his forthcoming tour, calling it off roughly a month before the first date. The British singer and producer, whose real name is Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike, had planned to hit the road behind his latest album, Bulldozer!!, with the opening show only three weeks away. Sharing the news with fans on X, the 31-year-old said he had something sad to tell them and confirmed the tour was being cancelled. In his words, the budget had gone "fudgey", ticket sales were not strong enough, and the show simply was not ready to the standard he expects. He also noted that he now finds himself among a number of artists scrapping dates because of steep production costs, over-ambitious planning and the question of whether running at a loss is worthwhile – particularly when the result still falls short of what the show should be. The Grammy-nominated artist said he had been genuinely excited about performing the new record live, but had no interest in touring if he could not do it properly. He thanked everyone who had already bought tickets and said refunds would follow shortly, closing with a promise that he will be back. Dates had been lined up across the UK and Europe, with tickets priced from around £30. MNEK's career began early: he signed his first publishing deal at 14. Since then he has written and worked with names including Beyoncé, Zara Larsson and Madonna, and he released his debut studio album, Language, in 2018. Fans then waited eight years for a follow-up, Bulldozer!!, which arrived last month.
