Hayley Williams Honors Chad Gilbert in Tribute

Hayley Williams has shared a heartfelt tribute to her ex-husband, Chad Gilbert.

The New Found Glory co-founder died on Sunday at 45 after a years-long fight with cancer.

On Wednesday, the Paramore frontwoman returned to her Instagram Stories with a statement about Gilbert, to whom she was married from 2016 to 2017.

She admitted she had been unsure what to say, or whether it was appropriate, but felt certain she wanted to speak because life is shaped by the paths we cross and the reasons for those crossings are endless. She called Gilbert a true legend in the scene and said her time connected to him taught her a great deal. He introduced her to people who continue to shape her life in beautiful ways, and to music and culture that have made life much richer.

The Misery Business singer also credited Gilbert with teaching her plenty about the pop punk scene.

Much has already been said about what he gave to the musical world many of them grew up in, she noted. His influence and attitude pushed the genre forward, and his passion for building community was inspiring and has stayed with her, the 37-year-old added.

Williams closed by offering her condolences to Gilbert's family and friends.

She said she will always be grateful that he gave her a deeper understanding of, and reverence for, the community and culture of hardcore. She sent love and sympathy to his family, the NFG fam and all his friends.

Gilbert married Lisa Cimorelli in 2020, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Lily, the following year.
