Ed Sheeran Cancels Two Gillette Stadium Shows

Ed Sheeran has called off two concerts at Gillette Stadium, the venue owned by billionaire Robert Kraft.

The Shape of You singer had been set to play in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on both nights of the weekend as part of his Loop Tour. Organisers have now confirmed that the performances cannot go ahead because of poor weather conditions.

Messina Touring said in a statement that severe weather warnings across Boston and New England for the whole weekend, combined with talks with local officials, had led to what it described as a difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium.

Ticket holders can get their money back where they bought their tickets, or will receive automatic refunds if the purchase was made through Ticketmaster.

The cancellation follows Macklemore's announcement that he will launch a Free Palestine Tour now that his "schedule freed up".

Sheeran and his team had removed Macklemore from the Loop Tour as a supporting act over "free Palestine" remarks he made during two shows in New Jersey. Sheeran has said the pressure came from promoters and venue owners, among them Kraft, who owns Gillette Stadium.

Every other supporting act on the Loop Tour – Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham and Beoga – also pulled out, standing with Macklemore.

Last weekend Sheeran returned to the stage for the first time since the dispute and spoke to fans about the fallout. He told them he is used to his music being criticised and is always willing to accept that, because he feels lucky that many of them like him, and that he is not surprised others do not.

He went on to say that this week's criticism concerned something far more important, that he has had to take and make difficult decisions, that he is making mistakes, and that he is very sorry.

Sheeran also admitted he had never seen himself as an "activist musician", but that his view has changed after being pulled into the debate over freedom of speech and what he called the most complex political issue on the planet.
