Taylor Swift to Receive New MTV VMA Honour

Taylor Swift will be the first recipient of the Artist Director Honours at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

MTV revealed on Monday that the pop star will collect the prize at the ceremony on 27 September.

The new category is meant for "groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling." It also "celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice," a press release said.

Swift already owns 30 MTV Moon Persons and arrives at this year's VMAs with nine nominations. Her nods include Artist of the Year, Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia, and Best Pop, also for The Fate of Ophelia.

Her total sits just behind Madonna, who leads with 11 nominations.

Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter are also among the top nominees, each with seven nods. Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson follow with five apiece.

Nirvana will be given the Video Vanguard Award at this year's event.

Snoop Dogg hosts, and the 2026 VMAs will air live from Los Angeles' Peacock Theatre on the evening of Sunday 27 September US time.
