NewsSeptember, 7 Oasis Directors Reveal Hidden Cameras at Reunion
Filmmakers Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace recently appeared on Radio X’s The Chris Moyles Show to talk about their upcoming documentary about Oasis, titled Don’t Look Back in Anger. The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at how they captured the reunion of Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher. During the interview, the directors shared that to film the brothers’ first meeting in 15 years, they set up hidden, remotely controlled cameras inside the rehearsal space. They wanted to avoid interfering with the moment, so they spent six hours each day in a sweltering portacabin without air conditioning, watching the footage on monitors to make sure the band felt at ease during the initial rehearsals. “Our whole approach was to be invisible,” Southern explained on air. “We rigged 12 to 14 cameras in the room and just left them to film. We had to hide in a portacabin for the whole summer during a heatwave. They didn’t see a single member of crew or us; we got there before they arrived and left after they left.” The directors also conducted separate interviews with Liam and Noel at three points: before rehearsals, in the middle of the tour, and near its end. Only after that did they bring the brothers together for a joint interview, which took place toward the conclusion of the tour once the momentum had built.
